The Kannawidan Festival is a major celebration for Ilocanos, especially those in Ilocos Sur. Each year's festival is a significant event marking the foundation anniversary of Ilocos Sur.
This year's "grandest celebration" was amazing. The Christmas village delighted children and adults, even those healing their inner child. Attending the opening ceremony was a joy. I was thrilled to witness fireworks lasting over five minutes.
What made this year's festival so special was how it showed us just how important our culture is. The whole point of the celebration was to remind everyone that our shared culture brings us together. It wasn't just about fun and games, it was about remembering who we are and where we come from. Seeing everyone there, celebrating together, really made that clear. It felt like a strong connection to our history and to each other. The festival helped us remember that our culture is something to be proud of and something that unites us as a community.
